Poul Henningsen designed the three-screen system in 1925–1926. The first lights to use this system were designed by Poul Henningsen in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris.
The first lamps were available in various colors and sizes with metal shades, the underlying surface painted white, gold, or silver, depending on the desired lighting. Later, glass was also introduced into the three-shade system. In addition to directing light downward, the glass lamps illuminated the entire room. Thanks to this design, Henningsen achieved uniform light distribution across the entire curve of the shade.
Louis Poulsen glass lampshades are crafted using traditional glassblowing techniques, refined over generations. Skilled craftsmen shape and layer molten glass with extreme precision to ensure optimal light distribution and a smooth, elegant surface. Heated to over 1400°C, the glass is meticulously crafted to achieve impeccable quality and a timeless design.
